Sinead and Wayne’s small family-only wedding was an excuse for me to visit The Mayson hotel in Dublin, with spectacular views over the river Liffey and a really photogenic interior. Months later it would become known to many as a key location in the drama series Kin, but for me it was an example of getting to explore a new venue for the first time and find photos in all sorts of strange places – including the fire escape. I love that sort of challenge though, and the resultant photo is still one of my favourite that I took all year.

The Mayson is a really lovely hotel and definitely a good fit for a small wedding celebration. The trip there was the second part of Sinead and Wayne’s three-part wedding day. The ceremony had been earlier in Ballygall, with just 6 guests alongside the bridal party in attendance. After lunch there wasa small garden celebration for immediate family in Sinead’s family home. My visit to the hotel, therefore, was fleeting. I did enjoy making use of the empty top-floor bar and its views, and the staff were very accommodating in letting us take some shots up there.

At the time Sinead was expecting, so I made sure to include “bump” in a couple of photos and I was delighted, a few months later, to get to meet and photograph baby Norabell a few months later in the outside world.

If you’re looking for a Dublin city location with a bit of style for a small wedding celebration I would definitely check out The Mayson.
