As has happened on a few occasions this summer, the weather forecast for Karen and Colin’s big day looked, well, iffy. Hurricane Katia was on the way, they told us, and things were going to get a bit windy. On top of that there was quite a bit of wet weather forecast in that “rain clearing to showers” kind of a way, and so the possibility of outdoor photographs hung in the balance. Not that it mattered, but in the end we had a bit of everything – rain, wind, blue sky, grey sky, warmth, cold. In fact you could say we had a pick ‘n’ mix of weather. Which is funny, because we had a pick ‘n’ mix of another variety too. The edible kind….
The shots above were indoor shots – the wind had picked up at this point – just before Karen left for the Methodist Church in Wicklow. The weather may have been making things awkward, but the light coming in from outside was lovely, and Karen was a pleasure to photograph.
Earlier on, while Karen and her bridesmaids Amanda and Fiona were being pampered in the kitchen, father of the bride Des found some peace and quiet in the TV room:
Meanwhile I took some time to photograph the all-important details:
Karen’s friend Fiona (her “favourite” bridesmaids, apparently, but maybe I shouldn’t bring that up again!) is a former “photo bingo” participant. She picked number 24 at the time, which got her a print of Grand Canal Dock.
I go wherever the bride goes on a wedding day, but it’s rare that I’ll follow her into the bathroom to be honest. That said, seeing as that was the easiest place for her to have her veil put on, that’s where I found myself, and actually those white walls and diffused light from the window made for more lovely light.
With the girls all ready, it was time to head to the church where groom Colin was waiting (far right) alongside best man Ciaran and groomsman Barry. The layout of the church was unusual in that it had no centre aisle – just two side aisles, so unlike most grooms, Colin’s first glance of Karen would be as she walked past the front row of seats from his far left.
I love when a church has a balcony:
At the end of the row of people photographed here you can see Rowena and John – I photographed their wedding last March, and photographed Rowena’s brother’s wedding last month. That made this the third wedding we attended together this year. Rowena has worn a different dress each time. I’ve worn the same suit. At least one of us is making an effort to mix things up I suppose!
The rings are an important part of the wedding ceremony, and my favourite moment of the day came after the ceremony itself when Karen couldn’t hide her delight at the new bit of bling on her left hand:
And with that it was time to head to Druids Glen, where that pick ‘n’ mix I mentioned was waiting for some guests to tuck in. And tuck in they did! More on that to come.

Love the pics honey, you look gourg and im so gutted I couldnt be there with you! xxx
