It’s probably a little bit bold of me to post this photo, but seeing as how my previous posts of photographs of my niece Abbie have shown her being happy, mischievous, mysterious and serious I think it may be time to show her, well, a little bit grumpy. Actually no, make that very grumpy. And I’m sure if there’s one thing guaranteed to make a grumpy girl even more grumpy, it’s her annoying uncle with the camera deciding to photograph her as she reaches the peak of a good old-fashioned sulk.
This photo, taken near my house a couple of weekends ago, was captured shortly after we had visited the local playground with Abbie and her brother Samuel (where he had some fun on the swing) or to be more precise, it was captured shortly after we had left the local playground. And therein lay the problem. Abbie wasn’t done with the playground, and didn’t want to leave. But my sister Orla (Abbie’s mom) had places to go and people to meet, so we had to make tracks.
Cue quite an impressive sulk really, starting with a refusal to leave the playground, advancing to refusing to walk any further, and culminating at this tree-hugging moment which I have to say I found quite amusing. Amusing enough to take a photo. What amused me most of all was that I could see her peeking out at me as I lifted the camera, and the click of the shutter was accompanied by a very dramatic “hmmppphhhhhh…..” sound and a lifting and lowering of the shoulders as if to illustrate that the level of grumpiness had just been taken to a new level.
Ten minutes later all was good with Abbie’s world again, but I decided that it might be too soon to show her the photo I had taken – I didn’t want to risk a relapse.

I love photos that show kids characters like this. I have several of my daughter crying, sulking and covered in paint after she raided the craft cupboard!
