On the day when the 4th generation iPhone has launched (in some countries at least) there’s something appropriate about me posting this photograph, as it was captured with my (now outdated) iPhone 3GS. It’s a recent photograph – taken on Tuesday as I strolled around Courtown in Wexford, a stereotypical seaside town in which I was delighted to find this stereotypical seaside shop. I took a quick snap with the phone (the only camera I had on me) but not before being caught in the act by the shop keeper. The shot itself though is still a keeper.
It was my first visit to Courtown, which reminded me of other seaside towns I’ve visited such as Crosshaven, Salthill and Youghal, and was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday afternoon. The nice weather helped.
The iPhone actually did a great job with this capture, even if my framing was off (I wasn’t gutsy enough to take a better shot having been spotted by the shopkeeper). All the more so when you realize that it was a particularly sunny afternoon, conditions even the most advanced camera can struggle with. There’s very little post-processing done here… in fact, below is the straight-out-of-camera shot (in the 4:3 format that the iPhone camera, like most compact cameras, captures) and you can see that the colour saturation, shadow detail and exposure is all pretty spot on.
Makes me wonder how good a job the iPhone 4 (with its improved camera) would have done.
Speaking of improvements, allow me to point out a couple of small changes on the blog which you may or may not have noticed. At the bottom of each post now is a Facebook “Like” button, so if you do happen to “Like” a post here, feel free to click that, or alternatively you can tweet the post using the Tweet icon that’s on the top right of the text for the most recent posts… perhaps sometime it’ll be there for all posts (when I either realize how to work it into the template or find the time to add it manually). And just in case you haven’t realized, there’s always an RSS feed of the blog which you can subscribe to below to keep updated… if you want to be that is. Updates have been sporadic in the last week or so due to a mid-summer holiday I was taking (hence the visit to Courtown) but normal service resumes again this weekend.

So classic, right down to the HB logo. Now I want a 99.
