It’s New Year’s Eve and a time to reflect on the year just past and to look forward to what will hopefully be a more prosperous year for everyone in 2010. So while we’re in that frame of mind, I thought I’d list some of my photographic highlights for 2009 and think about some plans for 2010.
2009 was the year when I started this blog of course (way back on the 3rd of March) and while it’s been a challenge to keep posting to it on an almost daily basis (I’ve come close to the one-a-day, but decided a few months ago that there was no point in being too hard on myself for the odd missed day), the blog has also been a great motivator for me to dedicate time to actually taking photographs. That fact alone has been a photographic highlight for me, but if I was to pick 10 photographs that I’ve posted here that I am particularly proud of, that list would look something like this:
- Something a little different – and the follow up post on the Digital Photograph School website
- And they’re off – and the first time I went to an event to shoot specifically for the blog
- Baby Giraffe – as a shot that was seen before it was taken, although it doesn’t seem to do much for others
- Volvo Ocean Race Village – for getting the shot that seems to have been a defining one for the Volvo Galway stop over
- Group portrait with a difference – for disproving the theory about working with animals
- A new arrival – for disproving the theory about working with children
- Seaside portrait – for putting theory into practice when shooting in strong sunlight
- Jetty Silhouette – for being perhaps the favourite of all the shots I’ve ever taken
- 360 days and counting – for the way he posed so well
- Dolce group shot – for the way it actually worked as planned
So they’re the highlights from 2009. What will 2010 bring? Well I hope to start a project which will involve doing a lot more environmental portraiture. I will be shooting more weddings, and hopefully more kid portraits also. And I would like to investigate the world of macro.
Whatever I end up actually shooting, I’ll continue to post here, and look forward to the blog growing for the next 12 months.
Happy New Year to everyone who stops by here, be you a daily, an occasional or even a new visitor.
