A short and sweet post today, with another shot from our honeymoon over two years ago, this one taken near Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. It was my first time in San Francisco and I loved it. If I was to go back there now I’d probably take many times more photographs than I did on that first visit.
When you go to a city for the first time it’s usual to take in the usual tourist sights, which can mean that the photographs you get are a little clichéd. I’m sure that was true of many of my shots from San Francisco. Nonetheless I am finding many shots in the collection that I quite like. This is one of them. A judge in competition would point out that it’s not straight (and it should be except I didn’t notice the need to straighten it before uploading it here), and would probably say that it’s a little busy – and they’d be right. However not all shots need to be sparse or have a single clear subject, and I like the way I find myself exploring this shot to take it all in.
A small-ish aperture, with a long-ish lens, helps create a decent depth of field, which helps with the exploration. The shot was taken in the late afternoon and the light has a more golden feel, and I particularly like how the jetty is lit from this light.
