Thanks Stephanie! If you're ever in Croatia and take the boat from Lokrum back to Dubrovnik on a sunny afternoon you'll get the chance to try it on the same scene!!

Amazing--I love this! Thank you for always going over the details of how you get the shot. I'm going to have to try this out myself sometime!

Very rarely use Photoshop myself, but if I was going to get into it properly I'd look closely at Chromasia's tutorials: http://www.chromasia.com/tutorials/online/ He (David Nightingale) also has a great blog: http://www.chromasia.com/iblog. Also check out Scott Kelby's books - he's basically a Photoshop Guru... and he blogs too: http://www.scottkelby.com/blog

Thanks for that Ronan, the effect is really stunning. As a matter of interest have you any experience with Photoshop? If so could you recommend any books/online tutorials? Just starting out myself!

Thanks Colin. I increased the contrast as much as I could in Aperture, and pushed the black and white levels towards the middle so anything approaching white went white, and anything approaching black went black. Finally I did a straight forward monochrome conversion using the channel mixer to get rid of some hints of pure red that were in one area of the shot. Actually, maybe I should add that detail to the post.

Wow. Apart from doing the composite, how much processing did you do on this Ronan? It's stunning - I thought it was a painting when I saw it first! Nicely done
