With the huge turnout for the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day parade, people resorted to some ingenious lookouts to get a good view.  Some climbed statues, others took prolonged coffee breaks in restaurants overlooking O’Connell Street.  This guy opted for one of the more uncomfortable looking perches.

10 out of 10 for persistance though – I photographed him on my way up O’Connell Street, and when I passed back down almost an hour later he was still there.  I suspect he was slowly losing feeling in his legs though.

The sign beneath him suggests a title along the lines of “Well no one said anything about people…”.

Just some info about how I decided to shoot during the parade.  Recently I’ve been shooting in manual mode more and more, as I like the total control it offers, especially when using flash.  For a fast moving event like the parade though I tend to use aperture-priority mode, which is where I choose the aperture I want, and let the camera adjust the shutter speed for a proper exposure.  I always shoot in Raw as this offers the best quality and flexibility in post processing, although it is a bit time consuming.  I did have some flashes in my bag during the parade, but with the bright sun beating down from the clear sky the shutter speeds were usually fast enough even for shots at 150mm using smaller apertures.

By the way, as I took this particular photograph 3 other people were doing the same so I probably can’t claim it as an “exclusive”.  Darn anyway.
